I'll give you my take.

We kicked out Al Qaida - they had operated freely there in exchange for fighting for the Taliban gov't against the Northern Alliance. We are now there (with NATO allies) to keep the Taliban from coming back and restoring the pre-911 situation. In order to prevent them coming back, obviously we need to help build up the non-Taliban army and government.

I don't see us nation-building other than as needed to keep the Taliban from coming back and re-establishing a new haven for AQ. If the Taliban ceases to be a threat, we can pull our troops out. I have no idea when that might happen. And since our presence is not large and we aren't spending big bucks there, I don't know why anyone should be impatient at this point.

I don't see anything unclear above. And I think the above is our mission. If you think I'm wrong you can tell me.

I see complaints from liberals a lot over Afghanistan's opium growing. Strangely from people who probably reject "nation-building". IMO that shouldn't be a big concern except to the extent opium aids the Taliban. To prevent that it would probably be reasonable to provide a legitimate market for the opium crop - to be used as a painkiller.

On another subject:
I still haven't heard a reply about the lost freedoms issue. Or should I put a mythical in front of that?

So, do you want to use Bosnia as a model? We're still there after 10-15 years....

If I was president, I would clearly state what our mission was there and share with the American people what we need to accomplish before we could leave.
