In either situation, nuke weapons have not been mentioned, apart from the US administration.

Just the dancing girls celebrating Iran's 3000 (or whatever number it is now), all spinning busily ostensibly creating fuel for a nuclear power plant that doesn't even exist yet.

kumar, don't be stupid. They're building a bomb. Nothing they have done or said makes any sense if they aren't. Even Europe can add 2 + 2 on this one.

lets take Iran as a specific example. there is the iranian govt saying they want civilian nuke tech for energy generation purposes.

If that's how you sum up the entire Uranium enrichment affair with Iran, then you need to brush up on your facts..

Query: 17 years a.q. Khan Iran nuclear technology violations NPT

You might ALSO research US nuclear energy policy towards the PRE-Khomeini Iran. You might be surprised.

In sum, US policy currently is shaped by the nature of Iran's CURRENT government, it deceptions regarding violations of the NPT, and its belligerent rhetoric towards other countries. It is not about the right of the Iranian people to possess nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
