I don't have a clue as to what legalization would look like, the mechanics of it at least. I assume it would be an evolving thing. It's hard to even start a conversation along those lines at this point. I agree it's not likely to happen any time soon, but thought it might be important for people to look beyond some of the easy stereotypes about it. I'm guessing that most people who ingest illegal drugs now are not addicts. That has to be the case, the volume is so great. So apparently society is happy with the don't ask/don't tell approach, with the inner city turf wars being not their problem and happening someplace else anyway. Addiction, whether it is a moral or genetic or chemical imbalance problem seems to be best dealt with as a medical issue, not as a police issue, unless you're poor or black.

Just trying to point out that all the fear mongering that has gone on completely ignores the huge social costs being born by us all as it now stands. There really is an elephant in the room. Closing ones eyes doesn't make it go away.

Obviously every pro-drug legalizer has their own idea of what it means.

I think most see it treated like alcohol. Pot over the counter. If we ever got to that point, it would be several decades before Coke and Heroin were legalized.

I set this discussion off a few days ago, and it's interesting to find how "pro" this board is compared to the general population.
