FWIW, I made it back to my 2007 high from late July today. But I am holding 13% cash in reserve this time.

Jim Clarke, what sectors or stocks are you in that have caused this "horrible six weeks"? I'm interested because their not having performed well coupled with your analytical expertise to get into them in the first place - they may be just the things to buy now. (I know,..er ..hope, you won't tell me it's homebuilders.)

I had a bad 4 weeks, followed by a good 2 weeks, FWIW. I'm still not back to where I was before this mess began, but close. Maybe within 4%.

I had a terrific sept. up 12%. also new high 35% ytd. this last six weeks was like earlier times. Not only do we have foreign countries like india , china etc growing fast. but it appears with oil at $80 we have mid east buying stocks , other investments vs buying into treasuries etc. Their actions of bringing more money into the market has to be pushing stocks further.

I think ive had a string of good weeks recently. I went from +4% on july 23 to -18% on august 23 to -5% as of yesterday for this quarter. However, I am confident that my portfolio could go up 30% from here and still be undervalued. My focused portfolio is vastly different from most on this thread being mostly natural resources and a couple of Macao stocks. What hurt me this quarter was RAS, MOG.to, and the severe tumble of uranium stocks, many dropped 50% from their highs. My largest speculation- gold explorer plg.to is down about 15% from its highs despite the increase in the price of gold. go figure.

No. Though don't ask me about my homebuilder positions. :P

Positives: MM buyout, KONG/HRAY (yeah, I missed yesterday's KONG 40+% jump, I told you I am bad with cigar butts), TLB trades, starting AEO position, I think that's mostly it.

Negatives: Homebuilders. Tell me something else. :)

I'm up 5.9% in Sept. after being down 3.1% for the month of Oct. I started raising cash a number of weeks ago and am currently at 72% cash (!) I'm up 13.3% YTD but was up 21.9% and watched it melt quickly.

Recently started a position in ARO.

My last six weeks have been fine. My low point was mid August. I have a lot of energy stocks, so this graph of energy index and Suncor show my swings. I am up a very nice percentage YTD.
