No, from Obama's schooling at least through HS, he MOST definitely would know history and the proper way to respect the most famous symbol of our Freedom.... There is no excuse for Obama if he went to Punahou....it is a VERY expensive private school in Hawaii, aned was founded on Christian principles...Couple of my friends went there. Maybe college undid Obama....Columbia and Harvard Law might have taught him Marxism.... How did a middle class background kid afford Punahou School, then Columbia and then Harvard Law....all VERY Expensive schools. It is perfectly understandable why he wouldn't know much about protocol Surely, you jest. This guy has been in Illinois State politics for awhile and was educated in US schools. He is playing to his strong suit - the far left. This type behavior suggests to me that he would smile at the sight of a burning US flag. In our government there is a phrase which is often used to beat up managerial and executive types regarding some aspect of their performance while in federal service. The phrase ends with: ...not the least appearance of impropriety. Apparently, obama does not think that applies to him. BTW, if his handlers should be tutoring him on an issue as simple as this, he is without hope as a presidential candidate.

Last fall I was intrigued when I learned that a man from Hawaii might run for President as I have an affintiy for Hawaii from my early years. Thus, I began to write on the Obama message boards here on SI to learn about this man. I suggest that anyone wanting to learn more go to those boards and read the messages, particularly the early messages that tell about his family and education. Obama's parents went to the University of Hawaii. His father left the family and went to Harvard to study. This is the beginning of a family saga that reads like a television drama. Multiple marriages and wives. After Obama's early education in Jakarta, he is returned to Hawaii and lives with his Grandparents who come to Hawaii from Kansas. As Grandparents they become his substitue parents on Oahu, Hawaii. In the late 1960's and 1970's Punahou was the only school on Oahu for people wanting a traditional, classical-English education for their children ----if they could afford to pay. It was the school of choice for English speaking people desiring a serious education. It is my impression from reading that Obama's Grandparents secured his entrance into Punahou. What isn't clear is whether or not Obama had funding by Punahou other than what his Grandparents paid. In such a school protocols are not ignored. Regardless, it is my surmise that Obama was taught patriotic protocol at Punahou. I find his excuses about not wearing the American flag pin on his lapel rather lame. mj
