As a boy I subscribed to Boys Life and Sports Afield. My favorite author was Russell Annabel, who wrote many a wild tall tale about Alaska and Mexico...

While largely forgotten today, Ruark wrote a couple of books about the Mau Mau. Something of Value and Uhuru offer insights into the terrorist mindset that still afflicts.

Robert Ruark

I was quite taken with him in the 60's. He followed Hemingway to Africa and became famous as a writer on that Continent. His biggest success was "Something of Value," about the Mau-Mau uprising in Kenya.

True and Argosy, the naughtiest magazines that I read as a youngster.

Do you remember "Blue Book?" That was the one that L. Ron Hubbard published his "Crete" stories in. I love it for the illustrations of the bare chested Cretan women. :>)

True and Argosy...ahhhhhhh the good ole days... I also lived a second life thru those magazines, as a boy.

I also read Boys Life, Outdoor Life and all the Classic's Illustrated comic books (remember those)...
