This whole mess is so horrible, and I don't really see a way
out of it without pain. No clues here. There has been a
considerable drop of mortgage rates, and if they try to
monetize, it may stall the housing slide. However, we
won't get out of crisis without getting our manufacturing
base back. That will be a long process, IMHO. A Volcker type
solution is not the answer to a debt crisis? In my view, the
best that can be done is a decade or two of "flatness" similar
to Japan. We are already 8 years into it, considering that
the SPOOS are at the same level they were in 2001, in constant
dollars.
