Not only are Democrats good for alternative energies, but far more important, they are good for conservation. Since they are far less beholden to the oil industry lobbies as the Republicans they are much more likely to institute serious conservation measures, such as a gas or carbon tax, etc.

Energy policy is an area where both sides have failed with partisan approaches. Ironically, we need to take up most of the proposals from each side and combine them. Alternative energy development for the long run but more nukes, expanded drilling, clean coal technology and higher CAFE standards for the next decade or two.

Keeping the dollar strong enough to buy oil and maintaining fair and friendly relationships with all the suppliers is another priority. Though I can't recall anyone ever refusing to sell us oil - the boycotts have come from our side.

Watching each side tout their agenda while blocking the other side of the aisle has been a miserable waste of time.

You certainly are placing hope before reason and experience.

The democrats and their union base have been behind the unwinding of CAFE compliance over the last 15 years or so.

The democrats are against coal, forcing us to buy more fuel from OPEC,

The democrats are against nuclear power, forcing more purchases from OPEC.

We are not going to run out of oil any time soon. There is no replacement for oil on the horizon. Our efforts to reduce dependence by using available alternatives are being stopped by democrats and global warm fear mongers.

2/3 of the world oil sits in the Persian Gulf region. Perhaps you forgot how we arrived in Iraq. Blaming the US for ME instability is rather foolish.

I don't think peak oil is as soon as some people think, or the drop off after the peak will be as quick. OTOH it is coming sooner or later. My main concern is that politicians will not let the market adjust to it but will rather try subsidies, or even price controls. I think that way leads to disaster.
