Yes, I agree that Obama supporters should be careful about supporting this kind of thing. Otherwise, it will be harder to resist the swift-boating that will certainly come from the Republican side in the general election.

I saw the story this morning that Lonnie Davis is defending McCain against the NYT charges. Davis is a former political advisor to Bill Clinton and a strong Hillary Clinton supporter. I hope this is not the beginning of a Clinton attempt to quietly help McCain defeat Obama and set up Hillary for 2012.

I am wondering if Obama could turn out to be the New England Patriots of politics. Everything is just going too well for him.

That said he still looks pretty unbeatable (as did the Patriots).

Actually that great big coast to coast national Obama group hug was great while it lasted.

I agree with you. America is too full of people who gleefully support this kind of innuendo and tripe. Look in the mirror lately?

However, just because a lawsuit is filed doesn't mean there is anything there. Look. I could file a lawsuit against you right now for the mental anguish and irreparable harm you have caused me from reading your posts. But would a judge entertain the motion and would I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting remunerative restitution for your imagined offenses? There's always a chance, of course, but let's face it, no one would give it serious odds of 1) being a true complaint and 2) winning in a court of law.

This guy Larry Sinclair is just another hatchet job hack, who represents an increasingly desperate and inept attempt by Clinton operatives to win an election that is already lost. My favorite hatchet job was the Muslim Manchurian Candidate email. Where do they get this stuff? At least they could make it believable, but apparently they think we're all stupid.

Unfortunately, too many Obama supporters praised the newsworthiness of the McCain innuendo story and began cropping and posting phony pictures around the net in support of the hit-piece. From my experience, in politics, turn-about is fair play, and McCain supporters will probably jump all over Obama using cocaine and having homosexual sex, saying things along the lines of "where there is smoke, there is usually fire".

Michael, long time.

Unfortunately there are too many fringe radicals that will do or say anything, on both sides. You can't control them. The best we can hope for is that 'the normal majority' ignores the crap and gets to the substance.

In any heartfelt competition of ideas we will all have a tendency to legitimize the assholes extremists on the left or the right. But they should be marginalized and dismissed on both sides.

Let's hope this election comes down to issues and not the kind of things the N.Y. Times think are important.

Why are you so convinced nothing went on between McCain and the lobbyist? This would not be the first time McCain fooled on a spouse. The NY Times is not some yahoo from Illinois........it does do research and check out the facts. I doubt they would willfully publish a story if they thought it was bogus.
