These soldiers understand what the typical American doesn't -- that the war must be fought and won.

What the hell is wrong with you? How many Vietnams do you all have to experience before you get it? Some wars can not be 'won' in the classic sense. That's because of local conditions. People like you and McCain don't understand the differences between the Shias and Sunnis. You don't understand the politics of the region. You don't understand the bungling the West did in interfering with local governance over the past 150 years. You simply see an enemy and like a bull in a china shop, go after them....full throttle.

Well its time to face facts......you guys are in over your head. That's why we have to end the war and bring our troops home. What you need to do is figure out why you all do these fukked up things from time and time. Hopefully then, you will start to evolve.

That a war cannot be started and finished during Bush's term is no surprise; shortly after 9/11 we were all aware that it was a very long-term commitment -- that will extend past Bush's term and probably past McCain's or Obama's.

Then why did Rummy say it would be over in 6 months, max?

Rather than fighting a country which could be defeated as a unit as in the past, we are fighting lots of individuals, obviously, more difficult to stomp out.

Especially with an army, when "the enemy" are spread thinly across the globe. Doesn't make any sense, does it?

But it can be done. You don't just say, "Oh, well, we're beaten."

What can be done? A strong pro-Iran government in the Iraq? Maybe, but I'm not sure why you would want to invest $Billions to help Iran.

"You don't just say, "Oh, well, we're beaten." You keep killing them."

Every one we kill breeds two more. Meanwhile, three potential terrorist babies are born. Absent setting up a Saddam-style police state, your logic loses to demographics. This isn't a problem for the military hammer.

Military action does not win heart and minds when the people being killed are the fathers, brothers, friends and sons of the people that live in the country you're killing them in. Ask the Nazis, or any other foreign invaders.
