I take a peek outside my back door regularly and haven't seen the bird for several days. That doesn't mean it hasn't been back, but just looking at the couple of places that were pecked earlier, they don't look any different than they have. My guess is it has moved on. Those spots on the wall were there last year but I didn't figure out what was causing them. This year, I finally saw the pest at work. We don't have as many of them, so far, this spring. I think the spring nesting period is over and the new hatches are already out.

That's consistent with literature I got from the county agent and the internet.

My woodpecker came back three times yesterday. I banged on a pan each time and he left.

The problem I have with foil strips is I have to tack them 20 feet up, and can't hold myself onto the ladder when I do it.
