We came very close to pure capitalism during the industrial revolution- and I think it was pretty horrible, which is why papa Marx's ideas became so attractive. No one wants to be chewed up and spit out by pure capitalism- and the people to whom it appeals are the people who are pretty sure they will end up on top- elitists, in other words, or those who aspire to the materialistic "elite" (which is pretty ironic, since these are often people who complain about elitists- of course their idea of "elite" seems to be somewhat synonymous with having and advanced degree. I never fail to get a laugh out of that particular joke. Ayn, herself, was a pretty hoity toity elitist (education wise, and materially)- it's a wonder the folks who don't like elitists can stomach her.)

I think that the project wasn't finished so there are no results to judge

That's the same rationale for staying in Iraq.

Twenty-five years is long enough and the trends are clear...at least to me.

The only thing left is to dismantle social security and medicare. Most people would survive and adapt. It wouldn't be the end of the world. Three generations of families could easily live in one house and save tons of money by sharing vehicles, utilities, etc. and buying nothing but essential items.

I might even like it...I get lonesome without my funny kids around.

The economy would shrink such that all need for more nuclear or coal-fired plants would disappear.

But is this what conservatism was all about?

Seriously, what is it that you see as remaining to be done?

And how will McCain do anything but take us further down this path?
