I read just today that 66% of self-identified Reps, approve of Bush's overall job performance. So he still has the approval of his base. Not great numbers, but that's a lot of people that must think he did OK....maybe the talk radio crowd.

His low approval numbers were based on 91% disapproval of Dems and 78% disapproval of independents, if my memory is right.

Say what? I can't recall when a president has ever ended up so unpopular with his base. It took a long while but they got wise to him, seems to me.

I agree that those Republicans who wanted to see him apply conservative principles are disappointed, but that is not his base by his own definition.

That would be the Haves and the Have Mores.

They include the ultra-wealthy, oilmen, mercenary providers, penal system contractors, war machine suppliers, no-bid contractors, Halliburton employees, $9B in shrink-wrapped cash recipients, et al.

Those folks have had a marvelous new century.
