I've read alot on Obama and don't believe he's as liberal as that ranking or the Reps are painting him out to be. To me, he seems very measured. What puts him left though is that he wants to raise taxes.

Actually, there is a lot more than just taxes doing this. He supports socialized medicine, which is an absolute disaster looking for a place to happen. He has opposed repeal of the death tax (technically a tax issue, but the death tax is a particularly egregious form of taxation).

He has opposed anti crime, anti-gang legislation. He has supported early prison release for criminal sex offenders (in '99, as a state senator, the ONLY state senator to do so).

He voted "present" on a bill to keep porn stores 1,000 feet away from schools -- rather than supporting it. He has, of course, refused to support the war on terror.

He is a huge believer in the bogus, alarmist claim of global warming. He supports raising the minimum wage and the EITC. He wants to spend more billions at the federal level on education.

I could go on all day. But there is just no way you can paint this man as anything other than an ultra extreme, ultra liberal.

Raising taxes is only a "left" position if it is unconditional. The "right" makes cutting taxes the answer for everything as a matter of faith. I think Obama makes raising taxes a likelihood because that is the correct course now, not because he thinks raising taxes should be a knee-jerk reaction.

You can't cure an ailing economy by cutting taxes. That would only benefit companies or persons who are already doing well enough to pay significant taxes. What is needed is a policy that aids those who are struggling. A tax cut now would be a waste.

What this economy needs is either targeted aid, or a reduction of the deficit. Either would have a chance of improving the economy.

You know what's interesting is when you google for the congressmen with the most conservative ratings all you get are the liberal ones. Is no one rating the extreme righties? If not, someone should start.......after all, they are the real problem in this country.
