Actually, I think they all said this in '04 and '00, too.

Until they figure out that America doesn't want an extremist (on either side), I think they don't get another shot at the presidency.

If I were a Dem, I would be working my ass off to get Hillary nominated, because I don't think Obama has a shot at getting through the process.

Big tent to little tent was a long time coming. Bush had his chance early on to do the reagan and expand the base but rove strategy yielded narrow wins without much risk. Keep in mind, bushes victory over gore was an upset as gore represented the clinton third term and times were good.
With obama, we shall see if he elects big tent and cross party compromise or bush/rove albeit on the left. If the obama thread is any gauge true believers want hillaryites booted from the party and would prefer to win by one vote rather than build up to 55%. I know this because they told me so---folks like wharf rat, sioux pal, manalgi, zeta, to name just a few.
