< They fake sympathy for people struggling with high gasoline prices and then they turn around and stab middle America in the back by voting against oil drilling in order to please the environmentalists, celebrities and fat cat foundations>

Oh please. "Stab in the back"? "Struggling"? Oh how very sad. The tragedy of giving up a $40,000 SUV and driving a $8,000 Yaris. Yes I have seen such suffering with my very own eyes.

Even people who don't believe in world peak oil recognize that U. S. oil production began a decline 35 years ago.

Who are all these people who "recommend" your post, who do not know that further drilling would do little to add to oil supplies?

The view that there is a political solution to the US energy problems--that if Congress will just get out of the way of oil drilling--is a large part of the problem.

I thought everyone posting to this thread had got beyond the point of view of the ignorant American standing there in fron of the gas pump and blaming Congress.

If you want to blame Congress, blame them for not taking action to encourage nuclear power, wind power, or solar power.

This notion that there is lots of oil to be drilled is commonplace among ignorant people, but it is untrue and does not help fix the situation. It only makes it worse by postponing useful action.

The most heartening thing I've heard recently is Boone Pickens's project to invest 2 billion dollars in wind farms in Texas. He says the oil has about run out. He's moving ahead into something else, not blaming government for stabbing him in the back.

Yes, I do think that a person who has made billions in the oil business does know something about it.

Drilling ANWR would give only a years worth of gas to guzzle in United States. If exported to east asia via pacific, it will be consumed even faster. Further - It would not put a dent on the gas prices.

Bigger bang for the buck can be obtained by going Solar. Either US government can embrace and encourage or let other countries run away with technological gains. In fact I think not pursuing alternate energy will turn out to be more of a threat to national security since we remain at mercy of Saudis and Chavez's. W's groveling at Saudi's did not help much either.
