Well, it's not like he has had a lot of support from the folks who want to see him fail. Bush has faced formidable obstacles.

All bun and no meat.

Bush's bigger problem is that 7 years into his presidency, 80% of the people think the country is going in the wrong direction and maybe 30% approve of the job he is doing.

So either the majority of Americans have succumbed to mass stupidity, psychosis or brainwashing, or maybe Bush has been proved wrong by popular consent (or lack thereof).

But his base clearly won't back down no matter what.
