>> He was loyal.

He "was" loyal?

Loyalty is or it isn't.

Every day for the last 30 years, I have been (and probably you, too) trusted with a ton of information from clients under the condition that it is not for public consumption.

"Loyalty" isn't valid just for the duration of the paycheck (in fact, the arrangement you describe is more akin to blackmail than it is to loyalty).

No, he wasn't "loyal". Perhaps he lied then. Perhaps he lied now. I don't know. But with most liars, the bigger lies are told when more money is at stake.

CJ, > What consensus is that? He was loyal. He said what he was told to say. He was deft at deflecting questions he didn't want to answer. He never strayed from the script. Was it really his fault he was dealt such a poor hand?

In the order you asked your questions:

- Both Scott's newfound admirers (who once thought of him as a mere mouthpiece) and his detractors.

- So is everyone else that got a job with Bush.

- So has every press secretary that has taken the job.

- No he wasn't.

- Big deal.

- I don't see Ari Fleischer and Tony Snow complaining.

CJ, just in case you still doubt the consensus on McClellan's performance as press secretary, here's a clip from Keith Olbermann "commerating" his resignation:

Yep, the same Keith Olbermann who now has exclusive access to McClellan from now until Tim Russert. Can't wait for Olbermann to suddenly change his tune ...
