I fear Karen is right. You can see the absolute refusal of some to compromise right here on the board. There is a huge divide that separates us. It will take a market event to break the barriers to compromise.

Maybe so, but it's not like we're consciously choosing to be there. The common basis used to be objective and disciplined. Those factors were respected. You define objectives and constraints, come up with alternative approaches, identify likelihood of success, costs, benefits, preferably quantified, and then you pick based on what best meets the objectives.

Ethics are the necessary recognition of our common foundation.

Ethics? Ethics inform the objectives and constraints, the squooshy part. After that, it needs to be almost mechanical. But we're neither trained for nor predisposed toward rigor. The closest we get to rigor anymore is the magic eight ball.
