Not unsimilar to ideas i have proposed but one word of warning---you cant do that and raise bush tax rates as well on income over 250k. That would be effectively 10 points and would be over 50% for last dollar earned, not to mention matching FICA and state and local taxes which for a CA small businessman would amount to over 60% on last dollar earned.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Democrat Barack Obama said Friday he would apply the Social Security payroll tax to all annual incomes above $250,000, which would affect the wealthiest 3 percent of Americans.

Tax and Spend. Tax and Spend.

The problem, of course, is the same one as conservatives who advocate more drilling as the sole solution to the energy problem have -- that is, it doesn't really constitute a solution to the problem (in this case, which I suppose is the technical insolvency of social security).

You cannot buy your way out of a failed liberal social program (Social Security) by just slapping another 6% in taxes on the wealthy.

"Imagine if your security now was tied up with the Dow Jones," he said, alluding to the recent slide in stock prices. "You wouldn't feel very confident about the security of your nest egg."

I'd rather have my "nest egg" tied up in the DJIA than to have it in Social Security where the money I am saving for MY retirement is being used to pay current beneficiaries THEIR retirement benefits.

Al, > Obama wants payroll tax on incomes above $250,000

Why not a payroll tax on all income, not just below $102K and above $250K?

In other words, what's the point of capping the tax at $102K now if Obama's just going to restart it at $250K and above? This "doughnut hole" makes no sense from either a liberal or conservative perspective.
