Exactly.

It looks like they want him to lose. Whether it's just sour grapes or something more, the motive doesn't matter- in terms of PR it was a moronic thing to say on the record.

Makes me even more delighted Hillary is not the nominee.

If Obama wins and Hillary is not on the ticket, it's likely that the national spotlight will be out of her grasp permanently except for the occasional press conference on Capitol Hill.

That's a lot to give up if you had your heart set on recapturing top billing.

<<<But I don't see an explanation, at least a politically clear one, for telling a reporter. It would obviously wind up in print.>>>

Hillary is not some small time politician. If anything, she is very calculating. There is no reason for her to do something purely on the basis that it will buttress her ego.

Her fortunes and her future are tied to the democratic party. Her opponents may not like it, but she is here to stay. She will continue to be a force in national politics and in the democratic party.

To ascribe her motives to what she would like to do in four years is not realistic. She is if nothing else, a realist. She knows four years is a long time and that anything can happen.

She also knows that for her own self interest, she just has to plug away and do what is best for her country. She has been plugging away her entire life.

To assign to her petty and selfish little motives does no one any good.

It was speculated several months ago that the nomination was all but lost for Hillary, but that she would continue on the campaign trail to establish a foundation to win against McCain in 2012. From that point in time her tone changed and her rhetoric changed from oppositional to pleasantly and gracefully embracing the populous at the center. If that is indeed her strategy for 2012, Obama must lose in 2008 for it to succeed. Planting seeds, she is.
