Clark strongly defends his comments here (with not a little justification) -
youtube.com

IMO, his only problem in all this is being a little tone deaf politically.

I love the way McCain's campaign have dredged up one of the original Swiftboaters to argue this one.
Shows real class.

FWIW, I think the campaign might get dirty. McCain's campaign seems to get a free pass on questionable tactics, and I suspect this will tempt them to push the boundaries, particularly as they remain behind in the polls.

Obama must resist the temptation to do likewise.

MM, see my note to Tejek for part of my explanation..

I completely agree that McCain's Viet Nam experiences do not in any way necessarily make him a stronger candidate for POTUS or any other civil job for that matter..Personally, I have serious concerns about someone who went thru that kind of experience but I'm just a civilian and I can tell my friends, online conversations like this one,..

I suppose I was most POd with Clark cuz he should have known that Repubs, McCain and the MSM would "cling" to those words to rile things up, esp when they're trying to paint Obama as unpatriotic..

Americans get all goo-goo eyed at our soldiers, but we forget that we are not a country ruled by our military.

That's what I meant by some Americans getting a pass. And its not uniform.......Kerry apparently was not eligible for that pass for an example.

Why are we so quick to let the military rule us when that is not the experience we need in the White House at this time? Obama will have the Joint Chiefs of Staff of all of our Armed Forces advising him on military matters. He won't need to be an army expert himself. What he needs to be is a good Executive.

Exactly. As far as I am concerned, Clark was calling a spade a spade.
