I've been trying to think like Schmidt a bit here. And the best I can come up with is that the key item for Palin is going to be her debate with Biden. That's when the country all sees her. In some sense.

So you live with the mistakes, the thinness of response, the whole "I don't know what I'm talking about" visage now hoping she learns. And by the time she does her bit with Biden she's more experienced and more comfortable and it shows.

I would gather something like that was the debate as to whether to spend the time between now and the debate avoiding national interviews while cramming her with every tidbit. Or getting the interview process started and let her learn by doing.

It certainly can't get any worse.

One just wonders about the phenomenon of first impressions and their sticking power.

Biden is on the ticket for the same reason that Cheney was on the Republican ticket 8 years ago...gravitas. If McCain had anymore gravitas, he'd be a black hole. What Palin brings (on top of being a governor), is actual experience as the parent in a regular somewhat typical working American household/family. How long has it been since a President or Vice President had such a typically normal American life?

President G W Bush or Vice President Cheney? NO.
President Clinton or Vice President Gore? No.
President GHW Bush or Vice President Quayle? No.
President Reagan or Vice President Bush? No.
President Carter or Vice President Mondale? Maybe

Biden, Obama, and McCain all claim to identify and be fighting for the blue collar (or industrial) worker/family. When Biden tries to tell people how he identifies with the working class, he talks about his father. Obama talks about his grandmother and McCain talks about his father in-law (who was poor before the beer distributership). Only Palin can talk about actual work and experiences that blue-collar people can relate to. Biden, Obama, and McCain may all talk about public education and how they're going to improve public schools, but (I believe) only Palin's children actually attended a public school.

And who knew that people from Alaska sound like they're from the upper midwest? When people in the midwest battle ground states hear her speak, she'll sound kind of like their cousin from Wisconsin. So when she talks about the hopes and fears of ordinary Americans (and its many subgroups: Native Americans, Mixed ethnic/racial families, raising teenage kids, parents of special needs kids, public education, small family business, parents/family of soldiers), she won't have to dig up and name some family she met on the stump as an example - she can talk about her own life.

So yes, her personal experience is different than Biden, Obama, or McCain. What she brings to McCain's ticket is the experiences of a somewhat typical American woman - which is something the other three just don't have. Time will soon tell if it is an advantage or not.

On a AFTER DARK...show on FOX and coming from CLEVELAND last night I heard a numerologist who said that Obama and Biden would win...

However he also said that there would be a scandal involving
Palin sometime in October.

This was not a political discussion but it was interesting because he lined numbers from 9/11 and illustrated how these all interlinked which led to his saying we could expect a terrorist attack or something major soon.

The facilitator of this program said there were eighteen million women in this country who voted for Hillary who are now disullusioned with both candidates and most probably will not vote.

I also liked the alien discussion which supposedly will have great implication on all religions.

I do not necessary believe this stuff but since I am unable to sleep for three hours it provides fodder for thought ...

Of course last week two different psychics said McCain and Sarah would win.. So it's one against the other. Whatever one believes..

The best remark of the evening was that this country could not afford to go to war with Russia Or China as they really control us financially and that if there still was a cold war Russia would be winning by bankrupting this country.

And mocked that with issues such as we have currently in this country we are talking about LIPSTICK on a pig.He said the whole political thing is a major cartoon and has no relevance to reality. That is how we are duped as a public and kept fighting these little insignificant issues.... instead of paying attention to the larger picture.

Oh the economic crisis will not be over until the end of 2010 and it matters not what party gets in that our problems are pretty much insolvable. That gold will have to come back as the only basis for worthless money.

Maybe you can tell there is no sequence as to what I am writing here as I just am recalling a lot of what I heard.

I probably forgot a lot as listening while attempting to sleep are at odds with one another.
