Your idea, imo, gives bullies and nasty people an "out" they should never have.

I don't see how supporting a standard of not PMs "gives" anyone a useful "out." The only thing resembling an "out" is that they get to send nasty PMs, which is really not an "out" because there's no way of stopping it other than to discontinue the PM function. They're going to do it anyway, so you're not "giving" them anything they don't already have. Perhaps you are thinking of the option to post their PMs as a deterrent but I don't see how. Anyone who would do that doesn't give a damn if you post the crap they send you. So, by posting it, you just ugly the world up a bit for everyone and condone others doing the same. I don't see how that's constructive.

I find it much more "healthy" to encourage people to do their business publicly - where the full weight of judgment can come down upon them.

That assumes disapproval, which is not evidenced by the cheers from their buddies and the "entertainment value" for everyone else with a taste for such things. Jerry Springer's guests feel like TV stars. No difference here on SI.

The latest excitement for the RW seems to be a belief that a court has ordered Obama to produce his birth certificate. Unfortunately, the document being touted as the order is an unsigned one submitted to the Court by the Plaintiff. There is no signed order.
But it's not stopping the excitement!

Both Snopes and FactCheck have said that the birth certificate is valid, by the way.
