Relax, Neeka. For all of our fears, I think Obama will govern from the middle. A very smart, cautious man who wants to succeed. We have him down as a wide-eyed radical, but that's not where he will come from.

Smart? yes. Cautious? yes. But from the middle? what middle? You think Reid and Pelosi will be interested in any middle? They will come roaring in from the left. Now, who gets to steer in Washington? Is Obama strong enough to steer events? Who knows? Nothing in his history gives a clue.

For me the metaphor from this campaign was nautical: when the wind is directly from behind you, you can proceed fast & well by just holding steady & doing nothing. Obama did a lot of nothing in this campaign, especially since September, mostly successfully.

But if the wind is in your face, you have to keep tacking. That was McCain's fate.

When you have guys like Farrakhan, Wright and Ayers visiting the White House, and probably staying over night after attending a gala bought and paid for by the American taxpayer, relaxing should be the last thing on people's minds.

I want nothing to do with this new America, and fully intend to take full advantage of the people who voted for this new kind of leader.

Time will tell. For the sake of the country I hope Obama governs better than I believe possible.

He used the extreme Left and the Blacks to move up the ladder. Once he got the nomination he moved to the middle. I think he will use his overseas honeymoon to let things settle there.

He will do a "Clinton triangulation" here. He will govern to the "right" of Pelosi/Reid.

You're more trusting than me.

I would have said that of Hillary, but not Obama.

Right after the '92 election, I said the same thing about Clinton, except I only said "smart" and not "cautious". Turned out he had a wild card named Hillary with her Federal healthcare project and later a girlfriend named Monica. Subtract Hillary and Monica, and Clinton could have been a great President. We don't know who or what forces could be Obama's wild cards.

I think Obama will govern from the middle. A very smart, cautious man who wants to succeed.

Bingo. I think Americans are tired of ideological stuff - left and right. The right's mantra of "no new taxes, never, ever" doesn't fly in the face of continued deficits. "Free" universal health care isn't going to happen, either. Americans want competent plans to address the issues without respect to ideology, but that means both the left and right will be screaming for his scalp in four years. So be it. The 56 million ? who voted for Obama are not nuts, and if he focuses on the middle he'll be fine.

I think Obama will govern from the middle. A very smart, cautious man who wants to succeed. We have him down as a wide-eyed radical, but that's not where he will come from.

..I think Obama will govern from the middle. A very smart, cautious man

1) Thats what a lot of his voters have told themselves.

2) Denial is one of the stages.

3) Goes against his life history. Has never done a single centrist thing (as opposed to posing - "how to handle" white people, he called it in his book). Wrote that he associated only with radicals in college, continued that in adulthood (sought out Wright BECAUSE of his radical rhetoric), Ayers, Dohrn, Khalidi. Voted to the left of NARAL on the baby born alive act. Most liberal voting record in Senate.

4) Really believes (or why hang out exclusively with radicals) the radical political stuff he's been hearing his entire life, will start out trying to make his mark by taking the country as hard left as he can.

5) Any centrist turn he takes will have to be forced on him.

6) Best hope is the incompetence of the Pelosi-Reid-Obama triumvirate. The absence of any significant accomplishment in his life (except for self-promotion) is real.
