LA County has an existing 8.25 percent sales tax, a full percent higher than some other parts of the state (although other counties have the same rate). We just passed Prop R, which raises the LA County sales tax by a half cent for 30 years to pay for transit improvements. Now Arnie wants to bump up the sales tax by 1.5 cents. That would give LA County a 10.25 percent sales tax rate. Good luck to all the car dealers in LA County. Thankfully I'm right on the border of Ventura County, whose rate is 7.25 percent. My Costco is just inside Ventura County, I wonder if it's going to get more crowded.

Schwarzenegger calls for sales tax hike, brilliant. what he should do is declare a sales tax holiday increasing sales taxes will just erode purchasing power (already crushed) and an impetus to buy out of state (online) maybe he should call for an additional surtax on luxury goods, an across the board sales tax increase is HIGHLY regressive....stick it to the wealthy instead....
