I am involved with a group that treats people with opiate addiction. We safely detox people off pain killers as well as off methadone, which is even more difficult to get off. There are a number of clinics that can comfortably detox people from opiates. Depending on the levels taken, it can be done in about 4 weeks by taking the drug: Suboxone. I would be happy to converse by PM regarding this. I am also involved in the same practice with detoxing people from the Benzos (Zanax, etc), which is more difficult. These two drug classes are very dangerous and insidious, as the stigma is less because they can be prescribed by a physician. Xanax dependence is a huge looming health problem, the elephant in the living room, that is ignored as there is no easy solution.
