The Republicans in Washington has actively ENCOURAGED Detroit to build the wrong cars for the last couple of decades.

That's a convenient lie pushed forth by partisan Democrats.

How much of an incentive did Detroit really get for "building the wrong cars"? How much did it skew demand? How much did it affect the R&D of "the right cars"? Remember that the foreign car makers also met the demand for "the wrong cars" without having to sacrifice anything else.

Do you consider it a lie that a few years back when Dems proposed Detroit be put under stronger MPG requirements, they faced strong opposition from both Detroit AND the Republicans? In fact, that year only a very minor increase was put through, allowing Detroit to continue to produce en masse SUVs and other gas guzzling vehicles. Is that all a lie?

>You have actually point out the real reason why otherwise corporate-hating Democrats would want to bailout the Big Three, and it all has to do with saving unions.

Oh, come one, don't kid yourself. Most establishment Democrats love big business.

And it's not about saving unions for the sake of saving unions. It's about saving the American middle class worker and the American middle class way of life that's been the main building block of this country's success over the last six or seven decades.

>I don't know if Chapter 11 will break the unions or not. It likely will, but if the unions are indeed part of the problem, then they will have to be broken.

It will break the unions, and it will break the companies.

>I suspect you are afraid to admit it because of what that means for millions of families who depend on the existence of the Big Three. "Too big to fail."

Why would I be afraid to admit that I'm worried about millions of families?

>> The Republicans in Washington has actively ENCOURAGED Detroit to build the wrong cars for the last couple of decades.

>That's a convenient lie pushed forth by partisan Democrats.

You kidding? The Republicans were PROUD of it just a few years ago. I remember reading quotes from the Republican leadership in the House (Dick Armey, I believe) on the topic and being absolutely infuriated.

>I suspect you are paying attention to slogans without asking whether it even passes the smell test. Cause you know, it's a lot easier to believe that the "vast right-wing conspiracy" plotted to get Americans hooked on oil ...

Does "Drill, Baby, Drill" ring a bell at all?
