Michael, > Perhaps it would be more fair if instead of going after hamas leadershp, israel just lobbed its missiles into palestinian population centers as the pals try to do. Of course then they would be blamed for being more accurate than the pals.

Why be "accurate"? Just pull out the targeting system and be just as "inaccurate" as the Hamas rockets.

It won't stop Hamas from lobbing more rockets, but hey, guys like Ted, Bentway, and Harry will be satisfied. Cause you know, that's worth something ...

The "proportionality of response" issue is totally bogus. When someone attacks your nation, you don't respond in kind. You blow them to F*cking smithereens. A "proportional response" would limit Israel to merely firing a rocket into a random area of Gaza to see what happens.

As John Bolton pointed out last night, if you put this in the context of Japan's attack at Pearl Harbor, did we have only the right to a "proportional response" which would have meant sinking some number of various watercraft with a maximum dead of 3,000 or whatever it was? That would be absurd.

Once you are attacked, you try to kill as many attackers as you can. Hopefully, avoiding civilian casualties, but understanding that killing THEIR civilians is better than them killing YOUR civilians. And you level the place if you have to.

One thing you have to say about Israel. They're in, inarguably, the most difficult to defend geographic posture of any nation in the world right now. And they do one hell of a great job of it given the circumstances.

They need to clear Hamas out. At all costs. Completely.

They should go in ON THE GROUND with small units and surgically take out the Hamas units shooting the rockets. But, that would give Hamas a chance to fight back. Wouldn't be prudent..

But in context, please tell me how a nation should respond to indiscriminate cross border rocket attacks? 375 dead on the pals side and more than 300 are hamas. Cant do much better than that i suspect.

Without prejudice, to what degree do contested lands, as in Jewish settlements, continue to be a catalyst to this never ending mess?
