I have a theory about weight gain and loss.

I think it's much like technical analysis and stock moves.

If you are going in a direction (up or down), that's the trend.
It's like you kicked off some set point and started moving.

As long as you stay within the basic parameters of what you've been doing, the trend will continue going in the same direction.

At some point, the speed will slow, just as buying or selling slows down with stocks. You'll stabilize, maybe even go up or down a bit. So long as you don't trip that hidden weight scale the other direction, you'll continue on the same trend after a short pause to consolidate.

At that point, you can probably splurge once in a while without changing the trend and can learn to maintain a healthy weight. But, if you splurge too much or too often, you can start the trend in the opposite direction.

Once that set point is kicked and you start gaining, that trend will continue until you capitulate and make a drastic start to a new weight reducing trend.

The key is not to change the trend once you've trained your body to maintain.

I've usually kept a tight rein on my weight. Around 18 years ago, I let it get a bit out of hand, but corrected it within 3 weeks on a diet called The 35+ Diet for Women. (It's similar to Weight Watchers.)

Every so often I might do it for a week or two, if necessary, but have basically maintained.

The trend is your friend. :-)

LB,

dehydrated skim milk

That's must be some frankenfood. Not just skim milk, dehydrated on top of it.

BTW, that's what I would do to fatten people. The way to lose weight is to replace carbohydrates with fat.

Skim milk goes in the opposite direction, replaces fat with carbohydrates. The only milk I drink is whole milk.

Joe

I knew I was getting sugar from the non-fat yogurt I was using, but not the milk.

That stuff sneaks up on you. The other day I was remembering the pickled herring I enjoyed a long time ago so I thought I'd pick some up to use for a quick snack. It's fish, after all. Well, a serving of it, which is only a quarter of a cup, has five grams of sugar. I was shocked. Fish and sugar just don't seem to go together. I would have expected it to be pickled in some brine, not sugar.

223.1 Down 5.2 pounds from last week's 228.3. Obviously I am went up and down with water retention. Guess I retained a lot when I had that procedure last Monday. I am now back to where I was four weeks ago. So I lost a month, and am now looking at July 1st to hit my goal. When I get under 200, my waist size controls where I stop. I want to get it to 40", and I suspect that will be somewhere between 180 and 190 pounds.
