I think most guys own guns cause they are fun to shoot. Also they are interesting devices, one of the few products that can literally last a lifetime. That's why gun making isn't a better business, the products have too long a useful life.

poet,

I used to shoot for sport, but in my area a gun is somewhat a requirement. For decades my little Detroit suburb was as safe as any, but I believe that is no more. I was pretty much anti-gun until someone broke into my mom's house and had to be shot before he attacked her and my sister. That is what did it for me, and she lived in a very nice area.

One good gun is all that is needed. I do not understand why the public can buy or needs something like an AR50. I'm sure that Lee Harvey would have picked that one, had it been available.

The other side of the equation that's not being told is gun safety means keeping your ammunition and guns separate. It also means keeping your guns locked up.

The paranoid, home invasion defense justification for gun ownership does not mesh with safe gun storage. It probably does make people feel like Clint Eastwood when they take their piece out on their porch and announce to the kids, "Get off of my lawn!"

Oh, another point is most people who are murdered are done in by someone they know, not a stranger.

I have no problem with gun ownership. I'm actually a very good marksman, likely due to my 20/13 eyesight. My issues are more the paranoia folks feed upon to rationalize excessive attachment to weapons and unsafe ownership.
