I already see just throwing tons of calcium at the problem may not be the best tack..

Jozef,

Just had my annual bone density scan. Since I'm improved.. I'm bumped to every two years now..

At any rate the highlights..
1) I'm still not taking the Fosamax drug
2) Density in hips and legs showing nice increase
3) density in upper body areas is less improved.. however I'm doing a brisk walk about 8K nightly which seems to make the difference.
4) 8K IU D3 drops (will cut that down in summer)
5) taking the Vitamin K2 120mg daily
6) 3x227mg Strontium Citrate daily
Interestingly the doc stated that the strontium available in Canada would not do anything. She said the effective one is not approved in Canada, and that it is a prescription item in the US where it is approved. She said the prescription version in the US was effective. Now I need to verify that.
7) I am taking no Ca supplements beyond dietary intake but am certainly not avoiding Ca in my food although I also have kidney stone issues.. Bones are more important than stones..
8) I have lost no height. Same height as at 21 (when I stopped growing).
9) I will be adding weight bearing exercises for my upper body although doc says 'be careful' .. :O) I say but I ski.. no problem and she says you're scaring me.. Do you fall she asks.. I try not too.. but it happens .. I've never broken anything beyond a mild fracture at age 10.

All in all positive but I need to determine the effectiveness of the strontium I'm taking.. It's not cheap.

Nice though to be adding bone density @ 53 without drugs ... and not wasting away :O)

Oh and doc said ... I've never heard anyone taking 8K IU of D3.. and she prescribes it liberally up to say 2-3K for osteoporosis.. I told her all my results though including BP and cholesterol reduction.. Well she can't argue with success :O)
