I understand you live in Mexico and that experience has been traumatic as a cultural shock. I can help you on that.

First that must not cloud the views of a man.

If I would have the bad experiencies that I have had with some individuals in different countries, cloud my views, I would be hating mankind.

Compare these two times arriving in the US.

I have had a tough experience arriving from Boston from Halifax once. Instead of hating the US immigration I realized that they were taking me as an illegal since during that time they were going to Canada and entering from there.
Bostong being a major entering point. (late 80s Lost decade hitting Brazil hard)

I had been celebrating Hallowen, had not taken a shower or shaved. had no reservation for my flight that night from NY to S. Paulo.

Everytime I went to the US after that, I changed my profile, because they judge profiles not people. Picture that:

I flew from Iran to visit klaser. Had heard stories th US had held foreigners who were working in Iran for hours for questioning.

I came dressed casually like some one on holidays. Relaxed. They could question me for hours I would have nothing to hide. In 15 minutes I was outside. The immiration stamped on the same page of my Iran vis as my passport was full of visas to Iran from the 2005 to 2007.

I joked to my wife -who arrived with my daighter a day later also with lots of stamps rom Iran in their passport- and entered without any problem- it was because I declared USD11.000 USD in my pocket since the Citibank had cancelled my credit card and my bank account in Singapore and I had only cash.

In a corrupt country do not try to act local or pass as clever.
Treat the authority as you treat the authority at home.
Do not think yourself as clever.

I look at it like this:
When I am wrong. I am wrong anywhere. I am liable. If I am liable, I am liable.

I mentalize, in Brazil, would cost 5 points in my drivers' license plus BRL200. Here is costing USD100.
Even knowing that if it was a local he would not have stopped. By I was liable.

The corrupt policeman wants authority to be recognized. He is powerless. But he is a predator who smells in the air your reactions.

Say I get pulled over. I wait him to appproach. Only when he arrives I lower the volume of the radio. I greet him first in English. If the policeman does not speak English, I try my best in the local language.

I have sent two good signs. By lowering the volume of the radio, I showed respect. Second I do not want him to feel embarassed by not knowing English.

"You were over speeding." If I say no, I am calling him a lier. If I say yes I admit the blame. I tell a credible story.

"Perhaps, I was, but to be honest with you, I was not looking carefully in the last ten Km or so, as I am hungry looking for a place to eat. Perhaps I did not concentrated too much."
Vague enough. Do not touch the point of overspeeding.

He asks for the papers I give the papers. This gives him time to pounder the quality of my story. Usually they let me go with a warning and they even say, he has got more people own the road, so I should be careful. I ask for te next place for food, he tells me and I say. Iam going to be very much concentrated henceforth.

Meet a Latina. No a Latino. Saw those photos of the office girls I posted here? Whenever contry I go I like to meet the local women.

Cherchez la femme. It is the women who know the local men's behavior. They are more likely to tell, honestly, how they act. Or how the 'law of the land' is.

They know much more about the dos and donts -useful to a foreigner- than the local men.

Women are protective people. They -instinctively- like to protect you and they help you. As if this in the end cost some money it depends on how you reward people. LOL!

I am not driving here because the company gives me a driver. I am going to start driving if I extend my contract here. (I need to go to Brazil to get a International Drivers license next month).

People not skilled on how US works get screwed, Subprime victims a big number are recent arrivals. CB tell us they were stupid and have only themselves to blame.

The locals watched and preyed on them. Not different than the Mexicanos who toook your money!

As a result another advice: It is not the Mexicanos to blame. It is your lack of knowldge of the 'law of the land'.

Stupid people glow in the dark. For the predators eyes, they do.

"fake driver's license that he took as I made ten of them on a color copier before I came from Canada".

As a result, you are risking seeing a Mexican jail from the inside. Meet a Latina to bring you bread and water, while you are in. Also to prove you are not gay...

Once they discover that ofiicialdom will react: Any honest Canadian -and I beleive most Canadians are honest- with a real and valid drivers license, will need to provide the drivers license, have it check for authenticity and this will harm other Canadians.

Your intent, of having a stash of fake drives license, proves that you did not act on good will.

Here's what going to happen:

Once the case of fake drivers license harming Candians gets to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City, your fake will become Exhibit 01. You will face some questions in Canada. Canada decides to make an example out of you.

Again do not try to act clever. You are not clever. A nice copy fo your drivers license in the hands of the police is not clever.

Of course if he noted your licence plate, what happens when he finds out it's a fake? Or hired car?
