the only way to be confident in leftist ideology is to discredit the editorial page of the WSJ.

Not quite. They discredit themselves by publishing lies. How can pointing it out be the cause.

One cannot be left and accept the WSJ editorial page.

Like you would know.

Vint - the only way to be confident in leftist ideology is to discredit the editorial page of the WSJ. Either they or the left are wrong.

Bob, turn around, join the conversation, make the case that the WSJ editorial page is not only opinion based (all editorial pages) but well grounded in journalistic ethics of "getting the story right." And, interestingly enough, open to diverse points of view, on a regular basis.

Zero-sum left-right thinking like that is a big reason that conservatives are out of power and wandering in the wilderness. The political center is fed up with the old politics of "Yer fer us or agin us and that's it!" that Rove turned into such poison by the last few years of the Bush experience.

It was the endless demonization of All Others that made it possible for Obama to step in and swoop up so many states that were supposed to be "reliable red states" in the New Conservative Majority. Didn't quite work out as planned.

If there is no message for the center, just Left and Right and Nothing In Between, then the center will just get sick of all politicians. That is NOT the recipe for a party way back in the opposition to mobilize a return to power. Just ask the Dems in the 1980's.

Basically, I see the WSJ editorials as consistently taking the the view that supports money and the left as consistently taking the view of the general welfare. Each (money & the general welfare) needs the other and neither can successfully survive without the other and in this country government has been the one to divide up the spoils between these competing interests.

This causes lots of arguments (this thread for instance), but we as a nation are committed to the argument as a way of life and our laws are all about preserving the right to argue.
