ROFL
You could say the same thing about guys who sleep around knowing it will break up their marriage. Or guys who look at porn on the internet at work even though they know their business might be checking that sort of thing. People, being people, they do stupid things. Doesn't have anything to do with addiction- might have something to do with being stupid, or maybe not. Maybe they just made a bad call- we all make them. They walk around late at night in unfamiliar parts of large cities and get the shit kicked out of them. They flip a guy off while driving and initiate an incident of road rage. I don't think a visual inspection is going to clue you in to the best employee. What if the thin guy is a pedophile? What if he's an embezzler? Two candidates are never equal in every respect. Me, I'd choose the one with the best personality, if they were equal on paper.

We've got some very heavy people at my school who are awesome to work with. I'd not want to discriminate on the basis of something so superficial, myself. But whatever floats your boat.

Q -

It's funny that you distinguish between drinkers and heavy drinkers, but don't make a distinction between pot smokers and heavy pot smokers.

If you've been managing people for 25 years, then you have, undoubtedly, had quite a number of employees who were pot smokers, but you didn't know it because they smoked on their own time, and it didn't affect their work.

Please don't misconstrue the above as a glorification of pot. I don't glorify it, and haven't used it myself in more than 25 years.

<<<Employers care about making money. Performance is important and if you have a hint of a behavior disorder you will be at a disadvantage.>>>

Sounds very consistent with your conservative values. Policy makers should stay out of the way. Let people fail. That will teach them. Less regulation. Less red tape. The free market will take care of everything.

Very consistent.
