Sadly, natural gas is CH4 and Team Obama absolutely hates the C in CH4. National ruin is preferable to any use of C

Of course taking congresspersons for joy rides on AF1 does not use C or create GW(ggg)

I can't off hand think of a single permanent private sector job created by the Feds. Maybe in the military/industrial complex, but they are not usually productive for the economy as a whole. The best way to create jobs is to stop messing with the economy and let people who need workers hire them.

As a long time entrepreneur over the years I never, ever, hired someone because of a gov't subsidy. I only hired them if I needed them and felt like they would be permanent. Sometimes people had to be let go because of incompetence or "cause", and sometimes because the situation changed. But, unlike some guys I knew, I did not hire them with the idea of letting them go when the subsidy ran out. I think that is the basic attitude of most companies. All that "stimulus" did was increase my taxes and make me less profitable and less likely to expand and hire more people.

It seems to me that instead of giving people unemployment payments we should have "make work" jobs for them. (1)it helps their self-esteem to do something useful, (2)it gets them out of the house, (3) they may learn some OJT work skills and (4) their work product should produce something of value for the public. Since most "make work" jobs are manual labor or boring clerical jobs, and they should pay no more than the minimum wage, there would be an incentive to look for a better job. Some training and time off for job interviews would be good.

Perhaps a good project would be to build a high speed rail line for Steve. Don't allow them to use any bulldozers, just shovels and picks, the old fashioned way. When it is done they could sell it to a railroad company and recover a lot of the costs. Then Steve could go from Boston to Washington at 300 mph which would greatly improve his productivity at very little cost to us dumb butts out in fly-over country.

I worked my way through college doing manual labor and every time I thought doing calculus problems or trying to balance a chemical equation was too damn hard I would sit back and remember how much fun I had operating an idiot stick in the hot sun. Now that is "stimulus"!!!

I realize I am just venting steam. None of this is going to happen because the above concepts are anathema to the powers that be in Washington. They are incapable of proposing a solution that doesn't involve spending other people's money.

Blessings,

JRH
