Plenty of people in their 70s are still sharp and active. Some even in their 80s.

Walt Stack (1908 – January 19, 1995) was a hod carrier by trade and an icon of the San Francisco, California, running community by popular acclaim. Stack ran approximately 62,000 miles in his lifetime.[1] Even in his 70s and 80s, Stack ran many more marathons and 50 mile ultramarathons than all but a few of his running peers.

Stack was featured in Nike's first "Just Do It" advertisement that debuted on July 1, 1988

Do we really benefit from a herd of sclerotic old fossils haunting the corridors of power until they fall over?

Easy there. You will be put on a time out for defaming thread members. ;-)

Reaching the category "sclerotic old fossils" is not simply an age thing; it's lots of other variables. Some 80 year olds are sharp as a whip and much more able than some 50 year olds.
