I think that most of the push-back on this has been because you originally said "property," not "undeveloped rural property." I know that I assumed something close to "back yard." (As I said, I don't have even a back yard. My "property" is the interior of a condominium apartment. ) Since hardly anyone has more than five acres, the notion that the law wouldn't apply to one's yard as opposed to one's "back 40" just didn't occur. The principle is the same but the level of outrage is much less when the tent isn't within eyesight or hearing of the home.

Nice description. Makes me want to travel in Sweden. So far all I've seen were a few areas near Copenhagen - and briefly, Malmo, Lund.

Maybe if and when I retire it would be nice to spend a couple of summer months traveling in northern Europe. So far most conversations I had with Swedes took place in ski hangouts, like Chamonix.... :)

I once got stuck with my car myself on a tiny Swedish forest road, and appreciated the help from a local Swede who pulled me free, a lot. I have no clue who he was, where he came from or where he went.

I think that would happen pretty much anywhere out in the country in the US as well. The further out the more likely.
