Z, > It's not funding continuous unemployment.

Yes it is. You're keeping people out of the labor market, and your discouraging entrepreneurship. They won't feel the need to take lower-paying jobs (for instance) or start their own businesses because they can just live off the government teat.

Basically you're just creating dependency. The money gets spent, but only at the rate at which you've artificially induced said dependency.

It's not funding continuous unemployment. There can be something of a case to be made that unemployment benefits keep people from working when unemployment rates are very low. But not now.

They address these issues in absolute terms. There are people out there who are probably just content to live off the unemployment $$, but that's not a case for abandoning the majority of folks, people who have fallen on hard times as a result of this economy and who can't find employment. What would one do with them? Have them live on the streets?

The problem with populist arguments is that it cynically feeds at the edges of popular resentment but ignores the true essence of the issues.

"THERE. ARE. NO. JOBS."

A fact all of them ignore. They will still keep prattling about how it keeps people from taking lower paying jobs. Then they dig up some anecdote about some un-named person in an unspecified location who offered jobs but had no takers.

That is the sort of thing that constitutes proof on the Right these days.
