Oh, did you notice the last line of the story?
"Although FireWire-based products continue to hold
a great degree of promise, they won't begin to
proliferate in systems until the end of the decade,
Fischer estimates."

Bearded One, you said " Now rather than taking your zip disk from work to home, you could take your entire drive!"

In my opinion there will still be a need for a "FLOPPY" disk. I believe the ZIP will be the next indusrty standard. The 5.25 didn't last, how much longer can the 1.44 last?

AS far as the N-Hand disk, what if you are on holidays and you take a few hundred photos? The N-hand disk would sure come in handy.

Personal I don't like the photo quality of digital cameras, unless you go to the high end $10,000 and up. Thats just my opinion.

I have brought up Firewire before, but it was ignored. Firewire WILL be standard equipment on nearly all computers in the near future. This does indeed eliminate any need for Clique/no.hand from the camera field. Since digital cameras already ship with a cable to transfer pictures, using Firewire won't be anything different or difficult. Firewire is a revelation for consumer level audio/video applications. And, it is another reason why Iomega has difficult times ahead.

Bearded One "a digital camera could just plug in to the PC directly and download the images. No reason for n.hand."
I think a lot of the cameras do that now. What do you do if you're not close to your desktop? Where will you download your pics when on vacation? How many pics can you store in your camera? The wire will help standardize the current method of moving pics to PCs--drivers, cables, etc.

"Now rather than taking your zip disk from work to home, you could take your entire drive!"
Why would you want to take your entire drive when you can just pop a Zip in your pocket? If you want to share some files do you want to give someone your entire drive?
