Terrible situation. I'm glad you were there to help.

no one giving me a straight answer about what it would take to get a service provider to this woman's residence.

These systems have gotten so horribly complex and distorted. I have spent some time of late, fortunately not like you in a crisis situation, trying to sort out how Medicare and the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program health coverage work together. You'd think it would be spelled out somewhere. Well, it is, but that is neither complete nor correct. In the course of my efforts I had to speak with my FEHB provider, Medicare, and OPM. Of course, their customer service people did not have sufficient understanding to answer my questions and it took a lot of work to get to the analysts behind the scenes. I was actually reduced to reading US Code. Had I not at one time done that sort of thing for a living, I don't know if I would have been able to get to the bottom of it. The worst part was that, in the end, I didn't like the answers I got at all. Looks like age discrimination to me (which offends my sense of fairness <g>). And although my comments were forwarded to the party responsible for the incomplete and otherwise questionable information offered, I have little confidence that action will be taken.

Yeah, I'd call that a crisis. Once upon a time, if you wanted care, you just engaged care providers.
