We spend a lot of time over at my Medical thread on nutrition. And where it has gone wrong. IMO, what is happening is precisely why you don't want the Gov telling you what to eat. They are basing their recommendations on premises that a lot of people now believe are wrong. There is a lot of evidence that what they push for kids to eat, skim milk, juice drinks, lots of wheat based products, make kids fatter, not thinner.

In any case, it's not an area that the Gov should be involved in.

my kids only ate a school lunch on 'pizza' day...yep....that's right pizza....which was like once a month back then, i've allowed them pretty much anything they wanted to eat....at home we had no sugary sodas, packaged foods, or candies..so their exposure to foods at home was healthy, but i didn't tell them that any food was verboten...you don't want to get into a stance about eating that signals deprivation, because i think doing so actually contributes to weight problems either way, becoming overly concerned about weight (eating disorders) or kids sneaking 'bad' foods because you are the food nazi....

oh and my 2 were not nearly as fat as apparently michelle thinks her girls are, forcing them on a 'diet'<g>
