Mike,

This is from the old Pentax release:

SUNNYVALE, CA, July 24, 1997 -- SanDisk Corporation (SNDK:NASDAQ), the world's largest supplier of digital film for digital cameras, announced today that it has signed an OEM agreement with PENTAX Corporation to supply the firm with flash memory cards for PENTAX's new EI-C90 digital camera. The memory cards, which will be sold under the PENTAX PC Card label, will serve as the digital film in the camera.

Personally, I agree that SNDK would be better off if their brand name became more familiar. As for the name, might as well start again.

Jim

Mike:

I think that "SanDisk" is meant to be a play on words - "san" is French for "without" so SanDisk means "without disk." Exactly what CF will eventually do - a non-mechanical, durable mass storage technology.
