There are other opinions about this than Irvin Jacobs.Just because he has said something on CNBC you don't have to beleive it 100%..
Irvin Jacobs mentioned that the 3.4 times has been seen in Hong Kong
Funny because that the CDMA-system is not so loaded only about 100 000 subs.So how they know that they have a 3.4 times capacityadvantage. In Hong Kong there are a number of GSM-operators with much higher subscriberfigures.SmarTone for example has about 400000.Irwin Jabobs said that there are still a few people that are not convinced about the superiority of IS-95 .I think there are more than a few.He also was asked if there where som other competing standards. He answered reluctantly that there was GSM which was "somewhat" used around the world. Here is a article from one of them that still beleive in a "flat world".It's about the standarddebate.IS-95,GSM,IS-136

thought i'd pass on some info. i talked with a smith barney broker the other day who said one of the reasons ericy was getting hammered was a barron's article last weekend that said ericsson had 40% exposure to se asia. this broker said barron's is wrong. ericsson's exposure is only 20%, and 17% is existing contracts with governments for telcommunications infrastructure that won't be affected by the market fluctuations.

Caxton... while doing the Chicken Little impersonation, you forgot to mention "The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!" If the market wants to whipsaw ERICY for infrastructure work in SE Asia, I'll just pick up more shares in the bargain bin. I have a very nice security blanket made out of all of those great ERICY earnings reports stretching back as far as my eye can see...

Telecom. is not a zero sum game. Just because one company does well, does not preclude another from growing their business too. Loved the "ericy has no clear lead in wcdma versus the other guys" comment.... so that just puts them on par with everyone else.

Or does it just bug you CDMA devotees that those of us who invest in ERICY can do so without the need to beat our chests, while beating the competing technologies into submission? It's investing for crying out loud... not a battle over the last roasted mastodon shank in the fire pit....

"Daniel, I think it's time to switch companies, CDMA 3.4 times the
capacity of the best GSM systems, CDMA gaining strength everywhere,
ericy phones being sold for $10 and nobody particularly likes them, cdma
phones selling for $200-$500, ericy with no cdma license, ericy has no
clear lead in wcdma versus the other guys. hmmmmm, and good luck." (Caxton Rhodes)

You have a habit of making outrageous statements without giving references. They seem to me to be an equal mixture of Qualcomm hype and wishful thinking.

The last time I checked, the lowest price Ericsson telephone was around $500. Where can you buy one for $10? Tell me and we can both make a fortune.
