Also, remember that Al Gore at the time was pushing for making the SS Trust Fund a real trust fund by putting surplus SS proceeds "in a lock box" .

Can you explain how that would be done? Does anyone question such rhetoric for reality? If we did not borrow from SS we would simply borrow more from the public. IMO - the SS lock box rhetoric is just more smoke to confuse an uniformed populace.

Put simply Bush took Clintons surplus and gave it to his rich friends saying they deserved it. He said they deserved to have the excess money back as they paid it,ignoring the fact we still had a deficit and he could have paid that down. He was open about it and the peopel said oki doki.

He ran both wars off budget and did not raise taxes. That was a first.

Republicans use a trick. They give as much money to their rich friends while in office (bush doubled the deficit from 5 to 10 trillion) with nohting to show for it except the rich getting richer. And break the bank. Then when the dems get in office the Republicans say we are broke and there is no money for the poor.

Bush had a deal with the Republican congress. You don't mess with me and I won't mess with you. He never vetoed a singel Republican Bill for 6 years. New record.

So now the top 400 wealthiest folks have more wealth than than the bottom 150 million.

In income disparity, we rank above Rwanda and below Uganda-lol (65 I think). The middle class is being systematically eliminated and the Citizens Unite decision will be devasting to our freedom.

Watch the next election.

<<I agree. However, keep in mind that the "surplus" characterization of the Clinton budgets was promoted to the max by Bush, Greenspan and other Republicans, when Bush was elected, and it was the justification of the Bush tax cuts. Also, remember that Al Gore at the time was pushing for making the SS Trust Fund a real trust fund by putting surplus SS proceeds "in a lock box" . At the time I thought the Republicans would jump at this opportunity for fiscal prudence. Instead the denigrated and ridiculed this idea.
