Joey - Re: "This doesn't look good if true...(i guess compaq never learns from its mistakes) - AMD K6 in Compaq Presarios" Well, you win some and you lose some. Here's a winner - IBM (as well as UMAX) is demonstating a Pentium II/Deschutes NOTEBOOK at Comdex: {==================================}zdnet.com IBM offers glimpse of Pentium II notebooks, 17mm unit By Michael R. Zimmerman, PC Week Online 11.19.97 12:00 pm ET LAS VEGAS-The mobile version of Intel Corp.'s Pentium II processor may not be due until the first half of 1998, but IBM Personal Computer Co. last night gave select attendees of this year's Comdex a glimpse of working prototypes of the ThinkPad 770 running the CPU. At a party here celebrating the fifth birthday of the ThinkPad notebook line, IBM also showed off a working prototype of a 17 mm-thick notebook, code-named StingRay and equipped with a lithium-ion battery, along with a nonworking prototype of a subnotebook-sized E-mail device. The two Pentium II-based ThinkPad 770s on display featured two different 14.1-inch LCDs (XGA and Super XGA). But what really wowed party partygoers was the StingRay. Although the prototype is 17mm thick, officials from the Somers, N.Y., company said the system will most likely evolve into a 24mm- to 25mm-thick notebook in the 560 line. IBM's E-mail device, though only a wooden mock-up now, will evolve into a real unit based on Java, and possibly Windows CE. In closed-door demonstrations, IBM showed under glass a similar E-mail device equipped with the company's expandable keyboard, popularized by the ThinkPad Butterfly. {=======================================} Paul
