Let me go slooowwwly fooor yooou.

ALL Christians have a core set of beliefs that include such things as the unique Divinity of Jesus Christ and the exclusive claims that go along with that. For instance:

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
(Acts 4:12)
New International Version (NIV)

So when Desmond Tutu denies these things either explicitly or implicitly, he places himself outside the circle of those who hold to the biblical teachings about the person and work of Jesus Christ.

There is no core set of beliefs for Christians. Some believe in original sin. Some believe the priest is the intermediary between you and God. Catholics believe or should believe that protestants will burn in hell. Some like gregoree and Brumar believe the US is on a holy mission to save Israel. Some Christians groups believe in reincarnation. Tolkien a traditional Catholic believed in reincarnation and Atlantis. There is no hard held core set of beliefs within the Catholic church let alone the Christian diaspora.

"We fear men so much, because we fear God so little. One fear cures another. When man's terror scares you, turn your thoughts to the wrath of God." GK Chesterton
