Nokia’s Lumia 900 will probably use a Qualcomm Gobi LTE modem, run an 8xxx OS build January 4, 2012 \| By Surur wmpoweruser.com WindowsPhoneDaily, through a brilliant bit of deductive reasoning, as concluded the Nokia Lumia 900 will probably use the Gobi 3000 LTE modem, same as the HTC Vivid. He reasoned that only Qualcomm’s S4 processors, which have not even hit the market yet, has built-in LTE, and of course Windows Phone 7 does not support the dual-core processors that go along with it (these are probably the processors RIM are awaiting for also). That only really leaves the use of an “external” LTE modem like Qualcomms, coupling MSM8x55 and MDM9x00. It does however raise concerns. WindowsPhoneDaily writes: Unfortunately it means that the phones might struggle with battery life just as the Thunderbolt did, which was notorious for its small 1400 mAh battery and resulting 4-5 hour life. But we’re hoping against such poor results as rumors say the Lumia 900 will include a much larger 1830 mAh battery and in general, Windows Phone is typically more efficient than Android in terms of power consumption. Interestingly WPCentral also reports that the Nokia Lumia 900 has been spotted by Lync Interactive running Windows Phone OS built 8104. It is not clear if this build is Tango or a late build of Mango, but given the size of the jump I am going to say the former. Either way we should know a lot more by next week at CES, and of course we will be there to report about it directly.
