Newt is getting the same marriage "rebound" that Bubba got. A lot of sympathy from voters who feel he is being persecuted.

>> Newt instead morphed into a win-win situation. <<

Newt did have a stellar debate performance. He also now has Rick Perry's and Todd Palin's endorsements, but we will see if it is enough. As for Romney, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has been campaigning for him and he just picked up Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell's endorsement. Ultimately South Carolina probably hinges on female voters and I'm not prepared to predict that.

Welcome to SI and the thread,

I believe he definitely thought about what he'd say ahead of the question (who wouldn't?) and he conveyed that thought right away. When he got to the second part of his answer (which I also believe he thought about in great detail) I immediately came to the conclusion that Marianne Gingrich probably has ongoing personal issues. I don't know if that is true, but it is what I took away from his comment.

"Every person in here has known personal pain. Every person in here has had someone close to them go through painful things."
