We are going through a Joe Mccarthy time in this country. Look at how the war on women has just exploded if you count the number of bills the right wigners are passing across the country. Its a period that became most apparent under Reagan but probably started in the 1960s with the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the anti war demonstrations. Two groups became very concerned..........the dominant race in this country and the industrialists who had a lot vested in a war machine. By the time Reagan came to power, they were ready to make their concerns known.......they were Reagan's Silent Majority. They were never really silent and I wonder if they were ever majority but they were ready to assert their authority and regain the power they perceived they were losing. Out of this ugly attempt to turn back the clock, the concept for Fox News was born and many winger programs and institutions. The neocons who promoted a war with Iraq are an offshoot of this winger revival. Meanwhile, Americans have continued to assert their rights and broadened their freedoms for all Americans.........making the American 'dream' more a true reality. However, the greater the expansion of those freedoms, the harder wingers have pushed back. Its why the divisions between us have grown so large. And sadly, one of the very positive traits of conservatives..............its loyality to tradition......even its reactionary bent..........seem to have been lost in the struggle. The problem with progressives/liberals we don't appreciate and respect the past as much as we should. Hence the incredible youth worship that goes on in this country and the recent bus attack on that 68 year old grannie by middle schoolers. We have lost all respect for the elderly even as Justin Bieber buys a $6 million house at the ripe old age of 18. We need conservatives to go back to their roots if for no other reason than to offset the negative aspects of liberalism and keep this country balanced.
